This project is initiated to bring kids out of the dungeon of academic, social and mental slavery. It is embedded with several educative programs that revisit the foundation of our kids. This is why the project is named “Start up for Kids”.
This project comes in one fold to effect change in many aspect of our kids’ lives.
・ Live Skills Mentoring - will give kids basic skills that they can live on apart from what they learn in formal school. These will include tailoring, tie and dying, arts, caterings and hair braiding, etc
・ Health Mentoring – healthy behavior to avoid unhealthy environment will be the focus of this mentoring. This involves research on the most difficult health situations and ways to avoid them as individual kids. Diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, malaria and other airborne diseases.
・ Environmental Mentoring - to build an environmental-friendly concept of the environment among kids. Giving them the real picture of the threats and evidences each day brought up as the result of our careless and most times intentional attitudes toward the environment. This lessens the risk society may experience as the result of the environment.
・ Human Dignity Mentoring -most kids have arrived at the point of feeling as a bad product to society. So, by teaching kids to have self-esteem and esteem for fellow kids irrespective of differences will surely bring us somewhere remarkable.
・ Simple Manners and Simple Courtesy Mentoring - these no longer exist among kids, even adults. Having good manners at dining tables, in public places (bus, stadium, public latrines). Poor mannerism at our National Stadium during football matches has contributed to the loss of lives and proprieties. Through this program kids will learn several manners and courtesy including addressing elders, using of home latrines, back yard.
・ Computer Literacy - the 21st century definition of literacy has a whole lot to do with basic computer ideas. While in elementary, junior and senior high school, I always kept the faith that administration would keep its promise of giving us the fundamentals of computer and that these fees were not free. Only to know that this process was going to be a “learn by seeing” one. This is the situation that all kids must not experience as I did. An hour of learning and practicing a day on the computer.
