Women's Health Clinic and Street Theater in Mrigauliya Nepal

Sunita Basnet was awarded $1000 grant from International Women Health Coalition (IWHC)Young Visionary Grant 2010  to increase awareness of sexual and reproductive rights and health in rural Nepal.

She organized a drama with the help of 18 volunteer students from Bright Future English Boarding School, Salakpur to perform the drama which was written and directed by Sunita. More  ten volunteer crew members were mobilized for the drama; six from the school and four from the Women’s Saving Club, a group that she founded in 2004.The play "Silent Scream”  is about early and forced marriage, witchcraft, single women, and women’s rights. It also emphasizes the positive impact of education on young women, gender equity for the overall betterment of women and ultimately a more just and equal society in Nepal.

The one day free health clinic was conducted near her home village of Mrigauliya in collaboration with Purbanchal University college of Medicine and Allied Science.  The free health clinic includes providing counselling for class 8,9, and 10 students from both public and private schools, HIV blood testing for 100 women and general health checkup. Sunita has finished the project, but she has highlighted some of the issuesr regarding women’s reproductive health such as awareness of sexual and reproductive health, affordable and accessibility  to condoms
