This session will see groups of high school students from Pittsburgh connect online with South African peers in Cape Town to discuss and increase their understanding of economic, political and social issues affecting young people. The session can be watched live here at 6:00 pm (South Africa Standard Time).
Established in the wake of the One Young World Summit 2012 by the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh, the International Youth Forum aims to enhance student engagement with pressing global issues. Over the course of the school year 2012-2013 the forum has staged a number of online meetings, each focusing on a theme from the One Young World Summit 2012 Plenary Sessions. Topics include education, global business, nutrition and health, human rights, leadership, sustainable development, transparency and integrity, and sports and society.
Prior to each session, students watch highlights from the last One Young World Summit tailored to a specific topic, they are then invited to conduct independent research and deliver presentations to the other participating students. There will be a further seven sessions throughout 2013 the last of which will see students from twenty schools around the world come together to discuss how the series has altered their perspectives on world issues.
