Mary Robinson

Former President of Ireland & Chair of the Mary Robinson Foundation for Climate Justice

 

Mary Robinson is the former and first woman President of Ireland (1990 to 1997). She subsequently served as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights from 1997 to 2002. Mary Robinson has spent most of her life as a human rights advocate and today, she is President of the Mary Robinson Foundation – Climate Justice.

A relentless advocate for climate justice, Mary Robinson was the UN Secretary-General Special Envoy to the Great Lakes Region of Africa as well as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Climate Change (August 2014 – December 2015 ) In May 2016 the UN Secretary-General appointed Mary Robinson as a Special Envoy on El Niño and Climate.

Mary Robinson is the recipient of numerous honours and awards throughout the world including the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Obama, she is a member of the Elders, former Chair of the Council of Women World Leaders and a member of the Club of Madrid.

Mary Robinson has served as a Counsellor in One Young World Summits: 2014 in Dublin and 2016 in Ottawa.
