About InterClimate Network:

“Young People Are Leading the Way on Climate Change, and Companies Need to Pay Attention.”

This was the title of an article in the March 2019 edition of the Harvard Business Review. In May this year the UK Committee on Climate Change released its key “Net Zero” report which recommended broader engagement across the population (including young people) and the upskilling of the future workforce.

For over 10 years, InterClimate Network (ICN) have been working with young people to add their voices to a debate that will have repercussions throughout their lives.

About ICN's Climate Conferences

With the enabling support of Local Councils, businesses and civil society organisations in each area, ICN brings together between 8 and 12 secondary schools in their local Council Chambers. The conference has two discrete sessions:

Global Negotiations Modelling the UN Climate Conference COP25 to take place in Santiago, Chile, teams each made up of 5-6 students will represent nations from Fiji to the USA. The session focuses attention on global progress towards targets to tackle Climate Change set out in the Paris Agreement in 2015, and negotiations for more ambitious global action.

Local Action In the second part of the conference attention turns to local climate action and how students can make a big difference. Set up in a ‘market-place’ format, staff of local sustainability initiatives will be there to share their expertise, enthusiasm and ideas for what can work well in school. The key questions students will investigate are:

  • What climate actions are already happening in our area?
  • Which initiatives can support our own climate action ideas?
  • What other help is available eg useful resources?

Attend in the UK: School Climate Conferences 2019

London (Hounslow) will kick off the 2019 series of Climate Conferences in London, Cheltenham, Solihull, Bristol, and Reading. Students from schools across the area will debate global progress and will be inspired to more climate action by meeting local experts.
