Get inspired by the power of words

We spend a great deal of time reading bad news in print and listening to bad news on television. However, at the same time, incredible stories take place around the world and most of the time, we don't seem to hear about them. These stories are the ones that come to One Young World.

The commitment these young leaders have made to the most critical challenges the world faces is truly commendable. They are achieving positive impacts in their communities to make them better day by day. That’s a big deal! But there is more.

Young generations have the power & influence to change the world

Since joining the #OYW Movement I have been amazed with the great opportunities that entail. Last year I was fortunate to listen to Professor Muhammad Yunas talk about social enterprise and to hear about his extensive work and in particular, a project focused on increasing the financial literacy (and thus empowering the capacity) of rural women in India to take charge and leadership within their communities.

Sir Bob Geldof delivers controversial speech at One Young World 2016 Opening Ceremony

Live Aid co-founder Sir Bob Geldof has called on young people to "be calm and think" and turn away from Donald Trump and other modern populist leaders, who he called the "commanders of the armies of stupidity".

In an outspoken attack on world leaders, from Russian President Vladimir Putin to Mr Trump, Sir Bob spoke of a "great retreat from reason" as he addressed delegates at the opening of the 2016 Summit of One Young World.

Less than 12 months & there is something in the air

Bangkok November 2015 was my highlight of the year. A city of smiles, culture and bustling trade hosted the pre-eminent global forum for young leaders, One Young World. From stepping foot off the plane into Bangkok Airport, I could already sense that this was going to be an event to remember. I was immediately taken aback by the physical presence of One Young World. You could really tell something big was about to take place in Bangkok, from the beautifully designed posters everywhere to the astounding welcome party of One Young World volunteers.

Investing in young people left behind

I come from Slovenia, a country that has roughly two million inhabitants. We are part of practically every international alliance, including European Union, Council of Europe and NATO and we just turned 25 years old. We were the first country to declare independence from former Yugoslavia and unlike our »brothers« from South-Eastern Europe that suffered much more than us, we faced a shorter, thirteen days independence war.
