I am passionate about

I am an appointed Member of the Legislative Council of Brunei as Person who has Achieved Distinction. I regularly deliver capacity building programs for leadership development for young Brunei leaders, and also an active advocate in civil society. Among my voluntary social contribution are HIV & AIDS work on awareness & advocacy, youth engagement, and employability among jobseekers.


Yang Berhormat Awang Iswandy bin Ahmad is a Member of the Brunei Legislative Council, under the appointment of the One Who has Achieved Distinction. Appointed at the age 32, he is one of the youngest parliamentarian appointed to the Brunei Legislative Council.

He currently holds Bachelor of Business Administration, Diploma in Youth Development Work and Certificate in Lower Secondary Science Education, and is currently a graduate student doing Master of Management from Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

Prior to his appointment as a Member of Legislative Council, he served as the US Embassy's Alumni Coordinator in Bandar Seri Begawan, in promoting co-operation and alumni exchange programs, as well as coordinating alumni and youth groups, particularly in the Young Southeast Asian program Leaders Initiative (YSEALI).

He also served as Youth and Sports Officer at the Youth and Sports Department, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, as well as teachers at Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation School.

His olunteer involvement in the movement also includes Youth LEAD Focal Point for Brunei Darussalam, the Commonwealth Youth Ambassador for Positive Living, and has represented Brunei Darussalam to One Young World Congress, the Singapore-Brunei Youth Leadership Program (SBYLEP) and the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI).

Active in NGO movement, he currently holds the position of President of the Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council, and Head of Media & Promotion for Brunei Darussalam Fencing Federation. During his leisure, he does fencing, hiking and badminton.

He was conferred with the ASEAN Youth Award 2009 in Myanmar, and the 2010 Youth Service Award by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the National Youth Day Celebration. In 2016, he is one of the youngest to receive Pingat Indah Kerja Baik (P.I.K.B) or Excellent Service Medal from the state.
