I am passionate about
contributing to improve the positive role that business can play in today's society. I believe that businesses can play an important role in addressing the world's social and environmental challenges and I am pleased to be playing a role in this field.
Being responsible for the Nestle Prize in Creating Shared Value, I am working to disseminate the concept of Creating Shared Value, developed by Harvard Professors Michael Porter and Mark Kramer, to a broader audience, including non-governmental organisations, social entrepreneurs, small enterprises, academics and researchers. This concept lays out the foundations for a society where businesses behave in such a way that it not only benefits themselves or their shareholders but also the communities where they operate. I believe this is a very powerful concept as this goes beyond philanthropy and sets out that you cannot buy people out of poverty. The concept is also interesting because it can be applies by private as well as public organisations.
