I am passionate about

My passion is my community. Being born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa in the early 90's, I have seen the good and bad of Pittsburgh. I love Pittsburgh because as big of a city it is, we are still very traditional and we are a close neat city; everyone knows everyone; especially in the African American community. Over the years the african american community has been loosing its voice regarding the state of our children, the quaility of their education, and our communities. I noticed that we had leaders who were attempting to make a change but they weren't able to achieve the outcome they wanted because they were disconnected with the youth today and their reaility. I have taken on the role and responsibility to generate actions in regards to bridging the gap between our youth, the young professionals, and the elders who are in these leadership roles.

Actions

Over the course of my life I have been invovled in numerous mentor programs, it was those mentor programs that has shown me the importance of giving back to my community. I recieved my bachelors degree in Social Work and have worked at various non- profits in case management. I am currently working on my masters degree from Duquesene University in community leadership. During my spare time I hold the postion as the membership chair for the Association of Black Social Workers Pittsburgh chapter and I am currently working on a new initative with The National Council of Negro Women Pittsburgh Youth Section entitled: Dream Girls. Both of these organizations are based off of African tradtions and principals to bring unity and self sufficency back into our communities. Both of these organizations create programing, advocate for those of the african diaspora, and provides the youth, young professionals, and elders with resouces; to ensure we are creating an enhanced quaility of living.
