I am passionate about
I am very passionate about equal access. This could mean equal access financially, environmentally, economically, educationally, socially, professionally... I believe we all have a right to equal access, especially the space of education. My parents were both raised by single mothers and were able build a better life for themselves and get out of poverty by pursuing an education. It truly launched them into the great life they have built today and inspired my brother and I to see education as a privilege that opens doors for you.
Actions
My favorite way to create positive change in my spheres of influence is by genuine connection. I am able to do this in my work professionally via mentoring, planning team outings, or even grabbing lunch informally.
I am also leading our first ever Human Resources Leadership Program trek to Senegal with a non-profit organization called BuildOn. In about two weeks, we will travel as an all female team to teach women in Senegal about female empowerment, and also build a school with the help of BuildOn and the local community! It is exciting that the entire community will pledge to enroll boys and girls in equal numbers, contributing to the ultimate goal of gender equality and equal access to education!
