I am passionate about

I’m passionate about helping vulnerable populations, those in needs and migrants to have better living conditions. Association Barwaqo works with local authorities and IOM to help these people through foods assistance for migrants and health education and malaria prevention training sessions for vulnerable neighborhood having poor waste management and promiscuity problem.
The two things, we are dealing with is Ethiopian migrants misfortunes on their way to gulf countries, some people takes advantages of them by making them live in dreadful conditions. Besides that, some of these refugees carry on them deadly malaria parasite getting from their native Ethiopia, that’s why I have ongoing discussion with NMCP to put in place malaria diagnostic tests kits at the border.

One particular neighborhood concentrates for itself all Ethiopian refugees and migrants problems and malaria devastation. The attention and priority of Association Barwaqo goes to this gloomy place. We are among other NGO’s acting for equity and social peace, fighting malaria outbreaks and following up migrants living conditions are our daily work. Now, with thousands of Yemen refugees coming to the northern city of Obock, Association Barwaqo team up with International Organization for Migration and so many local NGO’s to ease the settlements of those refugees, each one bringing its own touch and experience.

Actions

Yes, as a former monitoring and evaluation officer at malaria control program, I have helped poor Arhiba community to ease the burden of malaria through training sessions dedicated to young educated people. In partnership with national malaria control program, some of the most malaria prone areas are selected for long lasting insecticide treated nets distribution. Association Barwaqo often undertakes local distribution campaign with NMCP partnership in order to make those inhabitants benefit of LLIN’s for free.

We often have had occasions to organize blood giving day for patients of Central Peltier Hospital and victims of road accidents admitted into Balbala Hospital emergency. Each season, new members joins this seasonal blood collecting project and not just joining but giving their blood for real to save lives.

As One Young World ambassador, I was inspired by another ambassador from our region. From this inspiration was born a first aid project given to truck drivers shipping merchandises from Port of Djibouti into Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. Association Barwaqo welcomes every partner which makes its projects succeed. Almost, 30 drivers have received this training and are now able to face an accident situation and ready to save lives.
