I am passionate about

I am keen on promoting collaboration between the disciplines involved in design to achieve solutions which respond to the numerous and often conflicting challenges of design projects such as functionality, aesthetics, economics, sustainability, robustness etc. I believe that engineers working closely with other designers and political decision makers are key to achieving our carbon reduction targets we set ourselves for the future. I am therefore keen to promote the benefits of my career choice with younger generations and especially female studenst which are still underrepresented in the engineering world. I am especially passionate about making use of my acquired and developing engineering skills to changing the lives of those in need most by getting involved in charitable projects in the developing world.

Actions

I have recently designed and built a suspension bridge in rural Rwanda together with the local community and a group of 7 other engineers from my company. The new bridge will provide a safe crossing over the Murgeye River which every year during the rainy season has cost the life of some of those crossing and at the same time provide access to health facilities and promote trade between the villages. I worked closely with students from Kigali university passing on engineering skills and learning new techniques from them. I am also in the process of fundraising money to provide sponsorship to one of the workers for taking up university studies. I am a mentor to engineering students at Kingston university, sharing the passion for my career choice with them and supporting them through their studies and first professional experience. I have been a visiting lecturer to architect students at Nottingham university and the Metropolitan University in London to promote effective collaboration between design disciplines.
