8,000 reasons for feeling optimistic

I have 8,000 reasons for feeling optimistic about 2017.

 

That might sound strange in a world gripped by 40 active conflicts and threatened by climate change.

But while the news is dominated by the strutting strong men in the White House and the Kremlin, I’m reassured by the knowledge that there’s a generation of young leaders waiting in the wings, ready to build a better future for us all.

The Ambassador behind the global campaign #CaawiWalaal to relieve famine in Somalia

Caawi Walaal means “brother/sister help” in Somali and is the name of a remarkable youth volunteer movement that has delivered more than US$18,000 in aid to victims of the famine currently ravaging large parts of Somalia.

The project is rooted in social media and recognisable by its #CaawiWalaal hashtag but its achievements on the ground are very real, such as the recent provision of vital water trucks over a 30-day period to three camps in the stricken region of Baidoa.

Lead2030 sources 2,000+ SDG solutions from 110+ countries

Since launching at the One Young World Summit 2018, Lead2030 has sourced more than 2,500 soultions for the Sustainable Development Goals in over 110 countries. ​
161 solutions have now been selected to advance to the second round of assessment.

10 solutions will ultimately be selected to receive a transformative package of support from Lead2030 Challenge Partners including £50,000 and access to expert mentors.
