About

The Millennium Campus Network (MCN) is inviting undergraduate students passionate about Marine and Freshwater conservation, and sustainable use of oceans, seas, rivers, lakes and marine resources, to apply for the 6th Annual Millennium Oceans Prize. Entrants have to submit project ideas that are concrete and which can rally their peers to mobilize in this sector. Entries must focus on solutions to fight for and champion advocacy and leadership for the oceans, freshwater systems, sustainable fishing, and marine conservation. The proposed campaign could take shape through activism, social entrepreneurship, or research.

Prize

The winner will receive:

  • Up to US$5,000 to implement their winning project
  • Mentorship and support from Team MCN throughout the academic year 2020-2021

The winner will also co-curate global webinars with the MCN and the Remmer Family Foundation during the academic year to keep peers engaged and involved, thus cultivating a community of peers who care about the oceans and marine resources.

Who can apply?

Youth activists who are undergraduate students passionate about advancing Marine and Freshwater conservation, and sustainable use of oceans, seas, rivers, lakes and marine resources, are eligible to apply.

Submissions must have a concrete project or campaign idea and must demonstrate that the project can galvanize peers and sustain active engagement for a full academic year (2020-2021). Although the campaigns will be time-bound, their impact should pave the way for the next series of student movements to transpire.

Initiatives that champion sustainable fisheries will receive special consideration.
