One Young World identifies and connects young leaders from every country in the world, working in every sector. Programmes are then designed to develop them according to three main mechanisms:
INSPIRE them to increase their social impact
BUILD their skills and capacity
ELEVATE their profiles locally and globally
This helps to create a community of One Young World Ambassadors in every country with integrity, a mission, and the capacity to act.
We welcomed over 750 delegates to Munich, and a further 1,500 online in the first, hybrid One Young World Summit. This included 453 fully-funded scholarship places which were contested by over 50,000 applicants.
Delegates were inspired by a diverse selection of 163 expert speakers, educated by 80 different workshops, 11 mentor sessions, and 63 action sessions, and 34 exceptional young leaders were elevated as delegate speakers.
Plenaries covered issues relating to education, the future of work, the climate crisis, conflict resolution, rights and freedoms, and the pandemic.
Our flagship funding mechanism directs finance and mentorship to SDG solutions created by founders under 30.
13 new winners in 2021 have contributed to the $1.2 million that has funded young leaders since 2019, making it the world’s largest prize fund for young leaders tackling the Global Goals agenda.
The chosen Challenge Winners are inspired by their experiences at the Summit, have their capacity built by funding and mentorship from respective Challenge Partners, and elevated by the recognition and association with global companies.
As the global community for young leaders creating a better, more sustainable future, we were the primary presence guaranteeing that young people were included and listened to during the historic conference in Glasgow.
This included informative panel sessions that elevated young leaders' profiles and voices in the Green Zone, and an Extreme HANGOUT where people could connect, innovate, and relax throughout the fortnight of activities.
Through collaborations with partner organisations, we also contributed to important reports through the COP26 Visions and the Global Youth Inquiry, to set out new solutions to the climate crisis.
OYW Academy: Pandemic Preparedness
Our Pandemic Preparedness series offered 3,000+ young leaders the chance to participate in a pioneering online lecture series, taught by world-leading experts.
The series of online lectures by top scientists who developed the vaccines, senior representatives of the WHO, and national regulatory authorities, was made possible with the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
It convened participants from across the world to deepen their understanding of the critical issues that pandemics produce, such as vaccines, communications challenges, and antimicrobial resistance.
& Much More
The above programmes are only a snapshot of our offerings to the One Young World Community in 2021. We ran 82 different regional events that were attended by more than 11,000 people, finding inspiration to tackle the Global Goals agenda and connecting to their peers.
One Young World also directly connected 169 young leaders with 56 prestigious opportunities for profile elevation and to develop their social impact work.
Online, One Young World used its channels and social media content to highlight the work of young leaders, and amplify their voices.
