Protests in Cameroon bring human rights into question

The ongoing police brutality on peaceful and unarmed protesters in the north and south west regions of Cameroon makes it clear that human rights are eroding in the country.   

Over the past eight weeks, we have closely watched and witnessed government-sponsored acts of violence against protesting common law lawyers, teachers, students and the marginalised Anglophone community who have been protesting against imposition of the French language on their schools and courts.

11 young entrepreneurs changing the world

From 14-20 November, Global Entrepreneurship Week is taking place across 160 countries around the world. The annual campaign celebrates self-starters and entrepreneurs, and engages millions of people in pursuing their own businesses.

Several entrepreneurs in the One Young World Ambassador community have not only established profitable, innovative businesses, but have paved the way in social entrepreneurship, developing solutions to social, cultural and environmental issues.

Ambassador Erin Schrode shot at Standing Rock protests

Early yesterday, activist and journalist Erin Schrode was shot with a rubber bullet by police at the Standing Rock protests in Cannon Ball, North Dakota whilst interviewing a peaceful protester live on camera for Fusion.

She said, “I was standing innocently onshore, not making any aggressive gestures, never exchanging a single word with the police who fired at my lower back from their boat.”
