Jon Landau promises even more Avatars and says: "Making movies is about more than entertainment"

Avatar producer Jon Landau has revealed that there could be up to four sequels of the ground-breaking movie, as he made a plea for film-makers to choose subjects that make a difference to the world.

“Making movies is about more than entertainment," he told the One Young World 2016 Summit in Ottawa, Canada.

Amid growing tensions, a museum for peace is born

It was July 28, 1991, and the biggest stars in the Yugoslav music scene gathered one last time to play together in the name of peace before their country crumbled. The concert was held in Sarajevo, in the Zetra Olympic Hall that would, with the start of the city’s siege just ten months later, be destroyed completely. The Siege of Sarajevo lasted 1,425 days and was the longest siege in modern history.

I’m back at #OYW because there is still so much to take in

Last year, after my first participation at the One Young World Summit in Bangkok, I wrote a long article in the most popular newspaper in my country about what it felt like to be the only Haitian at the biggest international youth Summit in the world. I was so worried not to miss a detail that I wrote the entire article in a plane during the long flight between Hong Kong and Los Angeles.

Power of words

We waste most of our time reading bad news in print, listen to bad news in television, however, incredible stories also take place in the world and sometimes it seems like we don't get to hear about them. Those stories are the ones that come to One Young World.

Thanks to their commitment these young leaders have towards the most critical challenges the world faces, they are achieving positive impact in their communities to make them better day by day. That’s a big deal! But there is more.

World coming together as one.

Last year we had the honor of attending the One Young World Summit in Bangkok with Unilever. From the moment we arrived in Thailand we were immediately greeted with incredible warmth and energy of the city and the Summit. The feeling of being surrounded by so many inspiring change-makers from all over the world was a moment of the first day we will never forget.

ALISON WHITE

So here I am. As I sit at the airport, a moment of reflection: I have this amazing opportunity for the second time in my life! The build up to the 2016 One Young World Ottawa Summit has been such a busy time for me that I have barely allowed myself the time to reflect on how fortunate I am to be returning for a second year.
