Four Nobel Peace Laureates to attend One Young World Summit 2017 Bogotá

Four Nobel Peace Laureates will attend the One Young World Summit 2017 as it convenes in Colombia in October with the over-arching theme of Peace & Reconciliation.

The former United Nations Secretary-General and One Young World Counsellor Kofi Annan continues his long association with the global young leaders forum and will be one of the speakers at the Summit’s opening ceremony in the Colombian capital of Bogotá on Wednesday 4 October.

The most recent winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, President Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia, is to deliver the opening address for the One Young World Summit 2017.

President Santos will speak on the Summit’s overarching theme of Peace & Reconciliation as he opens the four-day event on the evening of Wednesday 4 October at the Simón Bolivar Plaza, in the heart of the Colombian capital Bogotá.

It is a chilling depiction of the pain of separation: the towering and bearded figure of an ISIS fighter fills the space, brutally cutting off a Yazidi mother from her daughter.

The message in the artwork seems even more profound because it comes from a group of refugee women with no previous experience of drawing, or even reading or writing. Working under the brief tutelage of the artist and One Young World Ambassador Hannah Rose Thomas these women have found a new way to give vent to their sorrows and to express their defiance in the face of almost unimaginable terror.

Meet the OFID Scholars attending the One Young World Summit 2017

A crack team of young leaders with life-saving skills in areas such as peacebuilding, health education and the regeneration of rural economies, has been assembled to address delegates at One Young World’s upcoming Summit in Colombia.

The cohort of 15 scholars has been chosen and funded by the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), which works in partnership with developing countries and the international donor community to stimulate economic growth and alleviate poverty in all disadvantaged regions of the world.

Celebrating young peacebuilders at One Young World

Eighty young Peace Ambassadors are on their way to Bogotá to share their remarkable personal insights and expertise with delegates at the upcoming One Young World Summit.

The party of outstanding youth leaders includes survivors of civil wars and political imprisonment, and those who have campaigned on high profile issues such as the mass kidnappings of girls in Nigeria and the persecution of the Rohingya people in Myanmar.
