Scholarships FAQ

What is a One Young World scholarship?

One Young World’s annual Summit convenes the brightest young talent from every country and sector. Every year, One Young World runs a number of scholarship programmes which provide funding for young leaders to attend a One Young World Summit.

What costs are covered by the sponsorship?

  • Access to the One Young World Summit 2019, taking place from 22-25 October 2019 in London, United Kingdom.
  • Hotel accommodation on a shared basis for the duration of the Summit.
  • Catering which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the duration of the Summit.
  • Transport between the Summit accommodation and the Summit venue.
  • The cost of travel to and from the Summit location.

Please note that if you are ultimately selected for a Scholarship and require a visa to enter the UK to attend the One Young World Summit 2019, you will be required to pay the UK visa fee yourself.

Am I eligible for sponsorship?

You are eligible for sponsorship if you:

  • Are between the ages of 18 - 30 at the time of the Summit
  • Have an evidenced commitment to delivering positive change
  • Demonstrate capacity for leadership
  • Are addressing key local and/or global issues in your work
  • Have a track record of generating impactful and innovative ideas

What scholarship programmes are running this year?

You can find all of our available scholarships listed on our scholarships page. New scholarship opportunities will be announced on this page during the months before the Summit so please make sure you are checking back regularly.

Can I apply for more than one scholarship?

Yes!

What are the 'Leading Scholarships'?

The 'Leading Scholarships' are designed to ensure that outstanding young leaders from every region are represented at the One Young World Summit 2019 in London.  We are running six 'Leading Scholarships' this year:

The scholarship places are open to every country listed in that region. We have not set a minimum or maximum limit on the number of scholarships per region, as we are eager to ensure that the best candidates are sponsored. Please note that priority will be given to applicants from countries that have been less represented at previous One Young World Summits.

I am a One Young World Ambassador. Can I still apply to attend via a scholarship?

Yes you can. Our scholarship places are open to all, though please note that priority will be given to first-time Summit attendees (not OYW Ambassadors). This is because One Young World is committed to ensuring that the opportunity to attend the Summit is available to as many people as possible, regardless of their ability to pay.

You can also attend the One Young World Summit as an Independent Delegate by paying the Returning Ambassador fee of £2,355 (£1,655 excl. accommodation).

Find more information on attending the Summit as a Returning Ambassador here.

I'm not sure how to fill in the application form. Do you have any tips?

Yes, we do! Please read our helpful guidelines for submitting a successful application: https://www.oneyoungworld.com/top-10-application-tips

I have applied for a scholarship place. Please can I get feedback on my application?

One Young World receives an overwhelming number of applications for each scholarship programme so we are afraid that it is simply not possible to give individual feedback to each applicant.

When will I hear back a result on my application?

The strongest applicants will be shortlisted by the end of May. You will be contacted individually by a member of the One Young World team if you have been shortlisted. We are not able to respond to individual emails enquiring about the outcome of the scholarship selection process.

I wasn't selected for a scholarship. What do I do now?

We're sorry to hear that you were not selected for a scholarship! Please do not be discouraged; we regularly add new scholarships to our scholarships page so please apply for any other scholarships you would like to be considered for.

If you are ultimately not selected for a scholarship, you could consider attending the Summit independently - by paying your own Independent Delegate Fee of £3,555 (£2,855 excl. accommodation). More information on pricing can be found here. Registration for First-time Independent Delegates opens after March 31.

Good luck with your application!
