Shudufhadzo Musida is a globally respected advocate, author, and thought leader shaping the future of women’s rights, mental health, and equitable development across Africa and beyond. Originally from South Africa, she rose to prominence as Miss South Africa and has since emerged as one of the continent’s most influential voices at the intersection of policy, culture, and social change across Africa, the Middle East and beyond.
She currently serves as UNFPA’s Global Champion on Women and Girls, following her historic appointment as the organisation’s first-ever Regional Champion. In this role, Musida leads high-level dialogues on sexual and reproductive health, mental wellness, and gender equity, working closely with governments, multilateral institutions, and civil society to drive systemic change. In recognition of her impact, she was named a Glamour Women of the Year Award Winner in 2022.
A committed mental health activist and advocate with an award-winning children’s book, I Am Shudu, and a broader body of work dedicated to healing, empathy, and emotional literacy for young people. Musida is also the creator and host of Mindful Mondays Podcast, a conversation series launched in 2021 and relaunched in 2025 to create space for honest, vulnerable, and transformative dialogue around mental health and wellness. Through intimate weekly conversations, she engages leading thinkers and changemakers across industries to explore inner work, personal growth, and emotional resilience, including voices such as Melinda Gates, Hillary
Clinton, Shekhinah, and Anele Siswana, among others.
Musida’s academic work reflects the same discipline and purpose that define her public life. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in International Affairs, Economic and Political Development at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, where she continues to strengthen her knowledge on global governance, development strategy, and public policy. She is also the founder of Masana Group, a woman-led development advisory and consultancy operating at the intersection of humanity, strategy, and corporate social investment, supporting institutions and brands in building initiatives that deliver measurable social impact.
Her global engagements span the United Nations General Assembly, World Health Organization conferences, Clinton Global Initiative, Concordia Summit, Goals House, TEDx, One Young World, TRT World Forum Next, and multiple UN convenings.
