United Nations Association of Montenegro is a branch of more than 100 non-governmental organizations around the world that provide a link between the citizens of the world and the United Nations by seeking to ensure that the UN is relevant to the lives of the peoples it exists to serve. UNAs have different programs and a variety of constituencies, such as individual members, member organizations, and partner schools and universities.
We stand for the belief that the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and international law are indispensable foundations of a more peaceful, prosperous and just world.
All members of the United Nations Association of Montenegro share common fundamental values including freedom, equality, solidarity, tolerance, respect for all human rights, respect for nature and shared responsibility.
We believe that today, more than ever before, we live in a global and interdependent world. No State can stand wholly alone. We acknowledge that collective security depends on effective cooperation, in accordance with international law.
We acknowledge that peace and security, development and human rights are the pillars of the United Nations system.
We reaffirm that gender equality and the promotion and protection of the full enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms for all are essential to advance development and peace and security. We are committed to creating a world fit for future generations, which takes into account the best interests of the child.
We recognize that all cultures and civilizations contribute to the enrichment of humankind. We acknowledge the importance of respect and understanding for religions and cultural diversity throughout the world. We commit ourselves to encouraging tolerance, respect, dialogue and cooperation among different cultures, civilizations and peoples.
We resolve to undertake concrete measures to finding ways to strengthening of the United Nations.
We acknowledge the vital role the private sector can play in generating new investments, employment and financing for development.
We emphasize the critical role of both formal and informal education in the achievement of poverty eradication and other development goals as envisaged in the Millennium Declaration, especially for girls and women, and empowerment of those living in poverty.
We recognize that climate change is a serious and long-term challenge that has the potential to affect every part of the globe. We emphasize the need to meet all the commitments and obligations encompassed in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and other relevant international agreements, including the Kyoto Protocol. We commit to stabilizing greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that prevents dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system.
We are committed to improve health systems, understanding that HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and other infectious diseases pose serious challenges to the achievement od development goals.
We are convinced that progress for women is progress for all.We emphasize the importance and resolve to eliminate gender inequalities in primary and secondary education, and at all educational levels, promote the free and equal right of women to own and inherit property, and promote increased representation of women in Government decision-making bodies, including through ensuring their equal opportunity to participate fully in the political process.
