One Young World was honoured to take part in the 50th anniversary commemorations of the Soweto Uprising in Johannesburg, South Africa, marking one of the most significant youth-led movements in modern history.
One Young World's Co-Founder and CEO, Kate Robertson, and Managing Director, Ella Robertson McKay, were among the delegation invited to attend the official commemoration hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, held to mark 50 years since the 1976 Soweto Uprising.
The anniversary stands as a powerful reminder of the role young people have played throughout history in advancing justice, equality and social change. As One Young World prepares to welcome young leaders from around the world to its 2026 Summit in Cape Town, the organisation reflects on the enduring legacy of the Soweto students and the lasting impact of their courage on generations of leaders worldwide.
