Nicholas Yap is an impact-driven investigative video journalist and documentary filmmaker from Malaysia. He co-founded Kource, an independent, youth-driven journalism outfit, and is an investigative journalist for The Fourth.
His work investigates rights abuses in land deals, indigenous communities affected by carbon credit projects, and realities facing migrants and refugees. Nicholas strives to create positive impact by focusing on human stories shaped by past, present, and future policies. By exposing these issues, he forces institutional transparency and promotes deeper public comprehension.
Through Kource and The Fourth, he directly benefits young people by making dense information accessible on social media, empowering a new generation of Malaysians to critically understand complex human rights issues and advocate for their communities.
Previously featured in The Star and R.AGE, he has collaborated with organisations like APRRN, IDPC, Monash University, Amnesty International Malaysia, and CIJ Malaysia.
Nicholas recently won the 2025 WAN-IFRA Digital Media Asia Award for The Last Harvest, an investigation into farmers' rights. He is a Pulitzer Center Rainforest Investigations Network Fellow, a One World Media Fellow, and an IVLP and YSEALI programmes alumnus.
