Stephen is an Equality and Diversity Assistant Principal Officer for the Education Authority NI which has responsibility for 350,000 children and young people, and some 45,000 staff. He manages the Disability Employment Support Service, and provides strategic direction for the development of equality screenings, policy, specialist training, and advice on complex equality issues.
Prior to this, Stephen worked as a Policy & Engagement Officer for the Law Society of Northern Ireland, and Student Experience Policy Co-ordinator for Queen’s University Belfast. During 2016-18 he was elected as Vice-President Equality & Diversity of Queen’s Students’ Union, and subsequently President, where he won Equality Activist of the Year in Ireland, and Overall UK Student Officer Team of the Year at the NUS Awards.
In addition to OYW Belfast Legacy Ambassador, Stephen is a member of the Standing Committee of Queen’s Convocation and an alum of Young Leaders on Arts Boards through Arts & Business Northern Ireland.
