Nurudeen is the Founder of Sirius-X Energy, an organisation focused on bridging the energy gap in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa through clean and accessible renewable energy solutions.

The organisation began in 2022, inspired by Nurudeen’s experience witnessing the realities of energy poverty in Nigeria. Growing up and working closely with local communities, he saw how unreliable electricity affected small businesses. This inspired him to establish Sirius-X Energy with the goal of developing clean energy solutions that are affordable, locally built, and accessible to marginalised communities.

To date, Sirius-X Energy has completed 86 clean energy installations across households and businesses in underserved communities, impacting a total of 532 beneficiaries. These installations collectively generate approximately 434.67 kWh of clean electricity daily and 158,154.55 kWh annually. In addition, the organisation has trained 4,500 people through its sustainable development and climate change fellowship programme. Sirius-X Energy is also currently conducting research focused on finding alternatives to generators in Nigeria, addressing key renewable energy challenges related to storage and capital costs. The organisation is working across the UK, India, and Nigeria in partnership with the University of Oxford, which provided the research framework, with pilots currently running across seven states in Nigeria.

He attended the 2023 Summit in Belfast, where he received mentorship from leaders within the energy sector, which played a significant role in deepening his understanding of the industry and supporting the growth of Sirius-X Energy. Through the One Young World Community, he also partnered with a fellow Ambassador on ongoing renewable energy research. Participating in the Action Accelerator programme helped strengthen the organisation’s team engagement and communication strategies. He was later nominated for an Earthshot Prize award and strengthened partnerships connected to the Innovate UK project.

“Being a One Young World Ambassador has allowed people to see what I’m capable of achieving. One of our partners noticed my involvement with One Young World and became interested in partnering with us in our Research. OOne Young World played a huge role in making that connection
possible.”
