2021 One Young World Academy Series: Top Three Coursework Submissions

One Young World Academy

Pandemic Preparedness

One Young World, with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is pleased to have returned in September 2021 with its second Academy series. This year, the focus has been on the highly important and timely topic of pandemic preparedness.

Participants gained access to three expert-led lectures, given by global leaders in health care, epidemiology, and disease communications.

In addition to this, participants were given access to a wide range of carefully curated pre-lecture resources, ranging from academic articles to podcasts and documentaries.

The COVID-19 pandemic was deemed a once in 100 year event, but we know that the next pandemic will likely arrive far sooner; young leaders must be prepared to tackle it.

Through this series, participants were able to deepen their understanding of both the science and the policy behind pandemic preparedness, and envisage new approaches to similar global challenges.

In excess of 3,000 individuals registered to take part this year, and following an extensive review undertaken by an external marking board, in conjunction with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, three pieces of coursework were highlighted as the most outstanding.
