#ForTheWeb: 'Contract for the Web' Campaign

#ForTheWeb is a worldwide campaign bringing people together to advocate for a free and safe internet. Led by the Web Foundation, the movement seeks to better connect the world without allowing the internet to damage our privacy, democracy or wellbeing.


The foundation is aiming to publish a Contract for the Web by May 2019, by which point over half the world’s population will be online. In the words of Sir Tim Berners-Lee, founder of the Web Foundation and inventor of the internet itself:

“We need a new Contract for the Web, with clear and tough responsibilities for those who have the power to make it better. I hope more people will join us to build the web we want.”

The principles of this contract include demands on governments and companies to improve accessibility of the internet while protecting the privacy of its users. Citizens meanwhile are made responsible for creating content, respecting civil discourse and fighting to protect the web.
