PAPO Communications in partnership with Absa is proud to present the first instalment of the Absa Youth Leadership & Entrepreneurship Development Programme. The Youth Leadership & Entrepreneurship Development Programme (YLED) gives selected in-school learners (60 learners in total in Grades 10, 11 and 12 selected from schools in Johannesburg and Soweto) the opportunity to have their leadership, interpersonal and entrepreneurship skills honed through 4 different skills models, namely:

1- Life Skills – Effective Communication & Personal Mastery

2- Entrepreneurship Skills – How to start a business, what is a business, how to structure a business, market and product selection, sales plan development, practical execution of a business idea, understanding the company’s responsibility towards the society – CSI execution and how to liquidate a company

3- Leadership Skills – Entrepreneurship skills, roles and Leadership weekend

4- Career Development Skills – CV writing, interviewing skills, career selection and bursary application process

 

The programme which involves a very strict selection process, is designed to develop talent and earmark young people for success in the following streams:

- In school

- Higher learning institutions

- Start and run their own businesses and

- Be effective employees

 

The main objective of this initiative is to:

- Give learners reasons to believe in themselves

- Prepare them for the world of employment

- Encourage self employment

- Instil confidence to pursue desired careers and the ability to navigate the higher learning world

- Provide tools to succeed in any organization, institution, business and other environments

 

The initiative is designed in order to:

- Develop young people that are empowered to make successful life transitions

- Pioneer a private-public partnership that drives a sustainable youth agenda

- To promote private-public partnership in the execution of social change driven initiatives

- Emphasizing the importance of education and life skills at high school level for ease of integration at a later stage

- Teach basic life skills required in a work environment

- Increase the employability of the young people in the province

- Develop a spirit of entrepreneurship within the Province

- Enhance educational awareness and promote self creation of opportunities

- Play a pivotal role in the development of the young mind towards a better tomorrow

- Create a flagship youth development programme that all young people will aspire to a be a part of

 

Dates for implementation are as follows:

- Recruitment and selection: 23 Jan – 18 Feb 2012  

- Welcome and Launch session: 25 Feb 2012

- Leadership Development Weekend: 2 – 4 Mar 2012

- Life Skills: 10 Mar – 26 May 2012

- TAGCTD & CSI: 27 May/8 Sep 2012

- Career Day: 16 June 2012

- Entrepreneurship Training: 23 June – 15 Sep 2012

- Graduation: 6 Oct 2012
