Lucía Valencia Dongo

, Brazil

After meeting Professor Muhammad Yunus at the One Young World Summit 2010, Lucia was inspired to devote herself to social business and founded DUHEM, the first Latin American online market-place devoted to social consumers and cause-orientated brands. DUHEM gathers the coolest, socially conscious brands and products which give back to society on a single platform (www.duhem.co). All products directly support social causes from education and health to environment and human rights. The market currently offers more than 4,000 products from 80 social businesses contributing to the sustainability of dozens of small and medium enterprises. 92% of DUHEMs suppliers are SMEs and 75% are led by women. In 2013, Lucia was recognised by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as an Innovator Under 35 becoming the first Peruvian to receive this award. DUHEM was also selected as one of the start-ups incubated by Wayra, Telefonica's IT accelerator, receiving $50,000 in mentorship and work space over 10 months.
