Win Sandar Soe was born to a Rohingya family in Sittwe, Rakhine State. A member of a persecuted minority, Win Sandar has witnessed people burning down local houses and places of worship; she was forced to flee her family home to escape violence and persecution herself. These horrific experiences have lead Win Sandar to work as a peacebuilder in order to help bring stability to a region ravaged by conflict. She formed a team to spread medical knowledge and aid amongst locals in Sittwe in response to the severe lack of medical facilities. The team taught Rohingya people how to prevent the spread of infectious diseases as well as about their religious freedoms and human rights. She also plans to start an education programme for internally displaced children living in camps who have no access to education.
