European Commission and One Young World 2021 Peace Ambassadors Stand in Solidarity with the People of Sudan

One Young World 2021 Peace Ambassadors

Declaration on Solidarity with the People of Sudan

We, young leaders from around the world and 2021 Peace Ambassadors for the European Commission and One Young World, stand in solidarity with the people of Sudan upon the military coup which took place on the 25th of October 2021. We strongly condemn the violence and excessive force used by the military against peaceful protestors. We urge for respect of human rights in Sudan and across the world, including the rights to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.

As the OYW 2021 Peace Ambassadors, we emphasize the importance of recognizing and empowering the equal, full and meaningful participation of young people in conflict resolution and peace processes. Hence, we highlight the necessary role of Sudanese youth in building positive peace in their country and their resilience in the face of the current conflict. We stress the importance of safety and protection from all forms of violence of Sudanese peaceful youth demanding respect for democratic values, especially for women and minorities.
