Community Action Slack Group

Regardless of whether you participated in Munich, digitally or at the USA Hub, we want to ensure you can stay connected with other Ambassadors who are equally as passionate about the same issues.  One Young World is all about action delivered, so we want to help you stay focused and motivated to drive forward positive impact.

Introducing: the One Young World: Community Action Slack Team

At the #OYW2021 Summit, Action Sessions offered Delegates the chance to meet with other attendees who are working across the same issue areas as they are. With the OYW Summit acting as a convening force for young leaders, these sessions were critical in ensuring those who are leaders in their fields link up, collaborate and continue to exchange valuable knowledge post-Summit.

Not everyone working on these issues had the chance to participate in Action Sessions or meet, so we are launching the first-ever One Young World Slack Team to keep you connected.

How to get started

  • Join One Young World: Community Action using this link.
    • For the smoothest experience, we recommend downloading the Slack app if you haven’t already.
  • Enter your email address, go through the verification process and create your account. You can connect via your Google Suite,  Apple ID, or simply by using your preferred email.
  • General channels: Once you’re in, you will see a few channels that we’ve set up to convene all Ambassadors who’ve joined Slack. You can use these channels to share updates or requests with the wider community.
  • Finding your Action Session channel: To join your relevant Action Session channel, click on ‘...More’ under ‘Slack Connect’, click on ‘Channel browser’ at the top left, and you’ll see the directory of channels. Search for your relevant Action Session, hover over it when you’ve found it, and then click ‘Join’.

Some basic do’s & don’ts

Do:

  • Introduce yourself in the main ‘introductions’ channel, and in your Action Session channel(s).
  • Bring your Slack profile to life. Add a nice photo, contact details, and a 250 word description about yourself in the ‘What I do’ section. Hint: given the limited word count you can put your nationality or city residing, key areas of expertise, company/organisation.
  • Be polite and gracious to anyone who you’re chatting to. Follow our Code of Conduct as a framework for behaviour on the channel. Contact a member of the OYW team if you have any issues.
    • Please note users that are found to be violating OYW’s Code of Conduct will be permanently removed from the Slack Team.
  • Stick with it. We know that newly ‘graduated’ Ambassadors have so much energy when they leave the Summit, and sometimes when they return back home, they find it hard to stay focused on the OYW communication channels. Do your best to help keep this ecosystem alive!

Don’t:

  • Spam people or channels. Please use Slack respectfully and reasonably.
  • Join every channel just because you can. Please join the 1-3 Action Session channels that you want to meaningfully contribute to.
  • Share the link to the One Young World Slack team with anyone. We want to ensure only Community members join.
  • Create lots of private channels that exclude other Ambassadors. Keep any newly created channels public so others can organically join.

Additional thoughts from us:

  • Generally speaking, we expect these channels to self-manage and evolve organically.
  • Some groups may choose to launch an initiative / campaign together. If so, please contact the OYW Community Team who will be on hand to support in the development of the group, and provide insights and connections where necessary.
  • If this pilot rollout of Slack is successful, we will invite members of the wider One Young World Ambassador community to join.

Any questions?
