As group chief economist of global energy provider BP, Spencer Dale provides economic analysis and input to support the business. Much of this work considers how the world is advancing the transition to a lower carbon energy system - one of the defining issues of our time.

Under Spencer’s leadership, BP’s economics team produces two industry-leading reports each year. The Global Energy Outlook and Statistical Review of World Energy consider the trends shaping energy markets now and over the decades to come, and are go-to references for senior industry and government figures around the world.

Before joining BP in 2014, Spencer spent much of his career working in key posts at the Bank of England, including as chief economist and executive director for financial stability.
