What is The Open Private School?
The Open Private School is a registered charity, which seeks to advance social mobility and equality of opportunity, by providing some of the intangible benefits of a private education to those from state schools. It is borne from a belief that whilst disadvantage begins through a lack of finance, it survives through a lack of exposure. Exposure to role models, exposure to networks and exposure to opportunity. Those who grow up to get the top jobs are five times more likely to be privately educated than those who were not and this lack of exposure lies at the heart.
This year, OPS will pair 30 highly experienced professionals across finance, law and business, with state-educated students, provide them with the exposure to the business world at a point when they are making critical, life-changing decisions at such an early age.
Whilst on the programme, mentees benefit from a series of upskilling workshops and will be connected with the other students on the programme. This means they will have a professional network, a peer network and the skills needed to understand, get and excel in their dream job in the future.
