Young people in the Global Compact on Refugees Launch Event

The Global Compact on Refugees is a framework for more predictable and equitable responsibility-sharing, providing a blueprint for governments, international organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure that host communities get the support they need and that refugees can lead productive lives. A central arrangement is the Global Refugee Forum where States and other actors come together to share good practices and contribute with financial support, technical expertise, and policy changes to help reach the goals of the Global Compact.

UNCHR and the Danish Refugee Council invite you to join them in amplifying and increasing the space and scope for meaningful participation of young people in the stocktaking and future design processes of the Global Refugee Forum.

We will do this through a series of activities this fall in the lead-up to the first mid-term High-Level Officials Meeting (HLOM) of the Global Refugee Forum (GRF) which will take place in Geneva in December. The upcoming HLOM provides us with the opportunity to take stock of successes and challenges and re-activate and accelerate pledges and commitments made to ensure we are moving in the right direction when it comes to the implementation of the GRF pledges as well as the principles underpinning the Global Compact on Refugees – and ensuring the continued relevance for youth.

Towards this end, we are launching a broad, multistakeholder initiative with and for young people to ensure they will have a prominent voice and representation in the lead-up to and at the HLOM in December and beyond.

The event dates are as follows:

25 August, 2.30-4pm CEST, The launch of Youth Dialogues

The why, how, and what of young people’s mobilization towards the High-Level Officials Meeting in December.

31 August, 2.30-4pm CEST, stocktaking event on GRF youth pledges

Pledging partners discuss progress, challenges, and recommendations.
