21 September is Peace Day: the culmination of the Global Truce 2012 campaign, which calls for one day of ceasefire and non-violence. This year Peace One Day, which organises Peace Day, aims to have the largest global reduction of violence ever recorded on one day and the largest ever gathering of individuals in the name of peace.
It is an annual opportunity for UN agencies and humanitarian organisations to focus their ongoing life-saving activities. In 2010, Peace One Day instigated a total of 88 life-saving and humanitarian activities by 28 organisations in 31 countries. These activities continue to happen every year, are varied and contribute towards peace building, development and aid.
