Gab Mejia

Artiste multidisciplinaire et explorateur du National Geographic

Gab Mejia est un photographe philippin queer spécialisé dans la conservation, un cinéaste, un artiste multimédia et un explorateur du National Geographic. Né et élevé aux Philippines, il explore les différents tissus de la narration visuelle, de la conception environnementale et de l'écologie par le biais de la photographie, du documentaire, de la poésie et du journalisme scientifique afin de confronter les récits dominants des crises écologiques à la justice socio-environnementale.


Mejia est un narrateur de Climate Pledge Global, un leader de la régénération de la Fondation Prince Albert II à Monaco, un membre de l'International League of Conservation Photographers, un Jackson Wild Media Lab Fellow 2019, un lauréat du Forbes Under 30 Award. Il a publié des histoires et des articles sur la crise climatique, la perte de biodiversité, le savoir autochtone, la mythologie et la culture dans National Geographic, BBC, CNN, ATMOS Earth, Art Partner, Vogue, United Nations, Photo London, TEDx talks, parmi d'autres plateformes locales et mondiales. Mejia a élaboré des programmes éducatifs et des expositions pour faire avancer les conversations et les solutions queer dans le contexte du changement climatique.

 

Depuis plus de cinq ans, il travaille à la conservation des zones humides et des cultures qui en dépendent, en particulier dans les marais d'Agusan où réside le peuple autochtone Manobo aux Philippines. C’est là qu'il a co-créé des projets participatifs de narration axés sur la conservation avec la National Geographic Society et la Commission nationale de l'UNESCO pour faire des marais d'Agusan un parc du patrimoine.

 

En 2023, son documentaire "The Passage of Storms" a remporté le concours artistique CreateCOP28 organisé par Art Partner et les Nations Unies. Il siège actuellement au conseil d'administration du World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines, où il travaille sur des projets de récits axés sur la conservation aux Philippines.
