Dr. Juliana Busasi

Medical Doctor and Public Health Activist

Juliana is a medical doctor and public health activist, passionate about investing in healthcare as a fundamental human right. Being a firstborn child raised by grandparents, she witnessed her grandfather who worked as a clinician come from work every evening to attend to neighbors who could not afford hospital care, this inspired her not only to be a doctor but also to empower marginalized communities through healthcare. Her journey began in 2015 as she founded Tanzania Health and Medical Education Foundation (TAHMEF) (www.tahmef.org ) to bridge socio-economic gaps that limit access to quality healthcare services among Tanzanians in informal sectors, the rural poor and indigenous communities through provision of : health education and screenings, medical education to healthcare providers with knowledge-skill gaps and linking households with affordable health coverage schemes. Her work has empowered 12,000+ Tanzanians in 6 Regions with services that are timely, accessible, effective and affordable. Currently, Juliana has adapted digital technology to scale and sustain her works’ impact. The products that she is building are:

●  AHADI: A digital mental healthcare platform that connects people with mental health experts while equipping individuals with tools to cultivate mental wellbeing.

●  NIA: A digital pay-as-you-go wallet enabling health insurance affordability among Tanzanians in informal sectors, and

●  TAHMEF ACADEMY: A digital learning platform that bridges knowledge and skills gaps among healthcare providers

through continuous education.
