Khadija Mahmoud

Medical Student at Imperial College London

Khadija is a fifth year medical student at Imperial College London and the student representative sitting on the British Orthopaedic Trainee Association. As a Muslim hijab-wearing woman of a minoritised ethnicity, Khadija has first-hand experiences of the effects of racial disparity within medicine and has worked with her medical school as part of the BMA Charter Task and Finish Group to investigate such discrimination and suggest means of combatting this early. As the current medical student representative of the largest surgical speciality trainee association in the UK, Khadija was invited to join the Royal College of Surgeons England steering group to help manage their new Medical School Engagement project. Khadija is passionate about engaging in initiatives that seek to challenge discriminatory behaviour within medicine and surgery and empower herself and others of underrepresented groups to speak out.
