FEED bags raise much-needed funds for UN World Food Program (WFP) school-feeding operations and awareness of the problem of child hunger. FEED Projects was started in 2006 when Lauren designed a bag to benefit the WFP School Feeding operations.
Lauren was inspired by the plight of the people she met on her travels in Africa. She took a special interest in WFP's School Feeding program, which feeds and educates hungry children. Lauren created the FEED 1 bag, to signify that each bag feeds one child in school for one year. In 2007, Lauren and Ellen Gustafson founded FEED Projects, LLC and started selling FEED 1 bags in April 2007. Different bags have been designed to help provide nutrition, education, and even supplies for healthcare workers. As well as the regular FEED bags, there are special designs benefitting children in Kenya, Guatemala, Haiti, and the USA, Today, FEED Projects has funded over 56 million meals and sold over 550.000 bags.
