Save The Children Rwanda Children’s Book Initiative, Ibaba

,

Catherine Uwimana, 31, oversees the Save The Children Rwanda Children’s Book Initiative, Ibaba, which aims to make reading accessible to every Rwandan child by developing reading materials in the Rwandan language, Kinyarwanda. The project is inspired by research showing that children who can master their mother tongue are more able to learn other languages and to thrive in school.

Impact:

  • 500 Rwandan teachers trained.
  • 250 children’s book titles produced in Kinyarwanda, with 107 approved by Rwanda Education Board.
  • 500,000 children given books in Kinyarwanda.
