Ernesto Zedillo, former President of Mexico, member of The Elders

Ernesto Zedillo was President of Mexico from 1994 to 2000. During his presidency, Mexico made profound democratic reforms, paving the way for a robust multi-party system. The country also experienced strong economic growth and saw a great increase in social programmes to tackle poverty. Since leaving office, Ernesto Zedillo has focused on seeking solutions to some of today’s foremost global challenges, notably drug policy, nuclear non-proliferation and development. He is Director of the Center for the Study of Globalization at Yale University in the United States.
