Conservation and the critical importance of harnessing Indigenous knowledge

The Panelists will discuss the topic of conservation and the critical importance of harnessing Indigenous knowledge. 

Lawyer and Activist, Mia Hammersley speaks about her experiences representing the safeguarding of Indigenous communities from a legal perspective and the importance of re-thinking the concept of the conservation movement to protect these communities and combat the climate crisis. 

Co-founder of ‘El Orinoco se adapta’ and founder of ‘Barranquilla+20’ Xiomara Acevedo stresses the importance of engaging this generation of young people with the most pressing issues and harnessing the power of youth to build sustainable cities and territories. Conservation is a central component in overcoming the climate crisis, and this session establishes how discussions and decisions must incorporate Indigenous voices.
