Escuelab was founded in 2013 with the aim of promoting STEM sciences to school children. Escuelab runs practical and interactive science workshops and to provide science education, and promote science as a career amongst Spanish students, particularly underprivileged children. Scientific knowledge in Spain is amongst the lowest in Europe and is an important factor in Spain's future economic growth where demand for STEM professionals, is estimated to grow by a factor of four by 2020. Students’ attitudes towards science are defined by age 14 and have already decided whether a scientific job is suitable for them by age 9. Therefore, Escuelab targets students in the last year of elementary school, providing them with engaging experiences with role models in the STEM field.
1. 3.500 students have received science career advice and 2507 have received full scholarships for further education in science.
