Zuva Rabuda/Sunrise seeks to promote literacy in Chirumanzu rural community of Zimbabwe.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
A survey carried out in Chirumanzu rural community has established that the area has got 30 primary schools and 17 secondary schools and none of these schools is offering computer education and none has a viable library facility. The student book ratio is 1 book per 36 students while the student computer ratio is at 1 computer per 1000 students
We have realized that more than 96% of the marginalized youth in rural Zimbabwe have been isolated from the global village, majority being women. Most of them are computer illiterate and as such they have lost hope in becoming part and parcel of the contemporary world with lots of technological changes.
How will this project solve this problem?
The project is currently underway. We are providing educational materials in the form of text books, pencils , exercise books and raising school fees for the rural kids .So far we have secured 40 000 books from International Book Project to benefit 47 schools within the area.
With the assistance of Bisila Bokoko African Literacy Project we have raised a scholarship fund for 25 rural children at Maware Primary School
Potential Long Term Impact
Over 2 500 students will benefit directly from this project and close to 40 schools will also be impacted in the next 5 months and beyond
Project Message
“Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that a son of a mineworker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farm workers can become the president of a nation.”
